Great interview... I always liked the guy and even more knowing his priorities. I wish him nothing but happiness in whatever he decided to do. Thanks for the memories with the Yotes Grabs... class act.
Also, it's absolutely bonkers to me that more players didn't ask Grabner how he was so good at anticipating plays. I assumed he'd have been inundated with requests. I'm equally surprised that that one player was Brendan Perlini.
Great interview! Grabs was my favorite player. Learned a lot from the questions and answers. Makes a lot of sense. Now I know more about why I liked him.
I’ll be looking for him at my grandson’s hockey games! Congratulations on the new bundle of joy coming and best of luck on whatever the future brings. I miss seeing him on the ice but it is so nice that he has been able to enjoy his family more. Good for him!
Impressive you were able to catch up with Grabner when the opponents of the other 30 NHL teams never could. Loved his "I figured he was driving a UPS truck" line.
Also, regarding his statement "I won’t be signing here again," is that because he doesn't want to or because NHL teams can't re-sign players they've bought out (unless they're Michael Stone)?
Great to hear from Grabs. Can't figure out what Billy was doing here with this buyout. When you factor in replacing Grabs with a Hunt or Cagguila, the Yotes only saved about 500k in salary. Definitely a mistake from the rookie GM, imo.
I'll never forget the run with Grabs where the Coyotes were a plus team while shorthanded (scored more shortys than they allowed PP goals). It took approx. half the season for them to fall under even and I believe it was longest into a season any team had ever gone as a "plus" team shorthanded.
Great interview, Craig! What a great guy/personality...hearing his perspective and insight on his PK strategies and the psychological/strategically intuitive game he was playing highlights that 'Hockey IQ' that the analysts are always talking about...loved that.
Terrific stuff Craig. Absolutely a great guy, interesting perspectives too. He was missed - I hope he knows how appreciative the fans here are of him and his time with the team.
Thanks so much Craig for this great and long interview (especially the insight about the current hockey business and his memories). As an Austrian, who were looking (during the last years) in particular NHL hockey games with austrian players like Grabs, Vanek and Raffl, I am really happy to get some news about Michael. He is such a decent and honest person and I am really happy that he had a great year with his family. It would be great to see him playing (PK) hockey again:-)
When you look at some of the dross Armstrong signed it's easy to conclude they would have been a better team with Grabner on the ice. A purely financial decision that hurt the team. I wish him well.
This is going to be an awesome feature! Only problem is the bar has been set so high right out of the gate... I'm preparing to pay more for next year's subscription so you can maintain this Scottsdale restaurant office space. Excellent article!
I wondered why Grabner did not catch on with another team this last season and why he was hanging around Scottsdale. It was pretty clear he had a lot left in the tank. Let go for money reasons, then replaced with players half his skill level. As someone else said, not the best decision by GMBA.
Nice article, good to hear what former ( or those taking a break) players are doing.

Great read Craig. Grabs was always one of my favorites. Love his attitude!

The Junior Coyotes need to hire this guy in some capacity. He's got too much talent to be sitting on his couch.

Grabner is the only player who could make me cheer when someone takes a penalty. Bring on the power kill!
A million dollars worth of advice to someone with the skillz to pull it off:
"If you give him something long enough, his brain will make him think that lane is there and he will try to make a pass."
